The two variables in video one are literacy rate, youth total, measured in (% of people ages 15-24) and Children out of school, primary, measured in (millions). The two variables in video two were both economic sectors. Service measured in (% GDP) and Industry measured in (% GDP).
Generally a country with a higher literacy rate will have a higher economic rate. This is because educated workers will be able to obtain skilled jobs that produce more money. The same general idea goes for children staying in school. The economic sectors are closely tied to economic development. A country with a high percentage of jobs in the service sector is more developed than a country with a high percentage in the industry sector.
There are many patterns shown with the variables in video one. A country with a higher literacy rate and more children in school will be located in a country with more capita, creating more skilled jobs. One regional pattern is that urban citizens and children will have a higher literacy rate than rural living people. One global development pattern for economic sectors is that a country with a high percentage of labor for in the service sector is more developed and is usually located in the core countries. On the regional scale a country with a high percentage of labor force in the industry sector will have regional capita disparities.
The reasoning for the first pattern; literacy rate and children attending school, is attached to amount of capita. This goes all the way back to geographic luck. If the country had geographic luck and could produce a surplus amount of food, allowing people to specialize in jobs and earn money, that country would be wealthier than those without geographic luck. Generally citizens living rural are in the agricultural labor force not making a whole lot of money. Those in the cities with access to industrial jobs will be making more money and will be able to send their children to school. The country with a high percentage in the service sector is usually located in the core or semi-periphery. This is because service jobs require more education and physically must be located in areas with enough capita to provide these jobs. On a regional scale, the industry sector will have a larger regional capita disparity. For example, in the 'China is Rising' video, there will be people who own the manufacturing factories making millions of dollars and there will be people working inside the factories barely making enough to survive.
